Bio-Inspired Design & STEAM Careers Professional Learning: Grades 6-12

March 23, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

$30

Explore how humans learn and innovate through research of and inspiration from animals and the natural world! For example, did you know that flamingo beaks can pump water and strain food at such a high rate that researchers are studying biomechanics in order to design a more efficient water filter? As part of this program, participants will explore animal adaptations and functions, both in the classroom as well as out in the Zoo. Through brainstorming and design thinking, teachers will identify animal adaptations that can solve a human issue and collaborate in teams to create an inspired design. In addition, the program will explore how STEAM careers play a vital role in bio-inspired design. Each educator will leave with the tools needed to recreate the learning experience in their classroom. Time will be reserved to plan and adapt the lessons to your learners and classroom curriculum.

Grades 6-12
Applicable GSE: S6E6, S7L1, S7L4, SB5, SEV3, SEV4, SEV5
The workshop will also address ways to incorporate standards in other subjects.
